This procedure replaces the inner layers of the cornea to treat conditions like Fuch’s endothelial dystrophy or pseudophakic bullous keratopathy. Before transplantation, the inside layers of the donor tissue are precisely removed with a lathe in the eye bank.

DSAEK Corneal Transplant

1

Used to replace the Descemet’s Layer of the cornea, primarily for conditions such as Fuch’s endothelial dystrophy or pseudophakic bullous keratopathy. Surgeons manually peel the Descemet’s layer off the donor tissue before transplantation.

2

Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) is performed for conditions affecting the front layers of the cornea, like keratoconus or corneal scars. The front layers of the patient’s cornea are replaced by the same layers from the donor eyes.

DALK Corneal Transplant

3

Penetrating keratoplasty (PK) is conducted to replace the full thickness of the central cornea with a donor cornea. It is indicated for conditions affecting the entire thickness of the cornea, such as full thickness corneal scars.
